Work Approach and Job Satisfaction

You didn’t get where you are in life by just skating by. They don’t give you a Mercedes just for showing up on time; it takes a specific attitude to reach your degree of success.

The way you approach your position, whether it’s as an executive or as an entrepreneur, has a lot to do with your satisfaction on the job. Here are three ways of looking at your job, and how they relate to your satisfaction:

Work as a job. If you think of your work as a job, you’re focused on the outcome. You like the paycheck, and your work might not even interest you. you want the lifestyle, and it’s why you’re there. Unfortunately, this attitude rarely leads to satisfaction or sucess.

Work as a career. If you think of work as a career, you want to climb the ladder. You’re motivated by status, by prestige and by power. Unfortunately, those things are ends, rather than means. It’s easy to become always reaching, never satisfied with what you have now.

Work as a calling. Here’s where you need to be for long term success and happiness. You’re focused on the work itself. The career advancement and financial gain are side effects of your intense desire to do your work and to do it better than anyone else.

When Giants Stumble

It can be easy to forget, when you’re driving your Mercedes downtown, that today’s success doesn’t necessarily guarantee tomorrow’s success. If you’re going to stay at the top, you’ve got to learn the lessons of other CEOs who have fallen along the way. One of the best ways to do that is to read When Giants Stumble, the last work of Robert Sobel.

In this book, Sobel presents a variety of case studies of CEOs and other coroporate managers who have made blunders leading to their own downfalls, if not the downfall of their entire company. Sobel selects interesting case studies and presents them in a condensed manner.

This book gives you an analysis of fifteen corporate failures, highlighting the management foibles that lie behind the mistakes. Each chapter identifies the main failing that eventually caused the decline, including such causes as foolishness, pride, shortsightedness, or nepotism.

In addition to being an interesting read, the book gives plenty of realistic advice about how to avoid falling as so many others have. If you want to be the best CEO you can be, consider reading When Giants Stumble by Robert Sobel.

Characteristics of Successful CEOs

Successful CEOs have more in common with one another than a nice Mercedes. Successful CEOs share certain traits that enable them to do the job they do.

Some of the characteristics of successful CEOs are internal. For example, successful CEOs are self-assured. They are tenacious when it comes to pursuing goals. They are honest. They are original. They’re detail oriented. They’re flexible, and they’re competitive. While not every successful CEO has these internal characteristics, most will share at least a few of these qualities.

Successful CEOs know how best to interact with people, too. They are always in control of their temper and their attitude, and show it. They think before they speak. They tend to be modest, but know when it’s time to boast. They have a good sense of humor and a great sense of style. They are willing to lead. They fight for their people. They are nice. They are straightforward. They ask questions, but not too many. They’re also good storytellers.

Good CEOs aren’t born, they are made. It is absolutely possible to cultivate these characteristics. While not all of them are essential to success as a CEO, each has ways that it helps keep you at the top of your game.

Avoiding Burn Out And Increasing Personal Well Being

As CEO, the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Not only your fate, but the fate of your employees and their families rests, in large part, on the decisions that you make and the way you run the business. Long hours and personal dedication are all a part of the job you’ve signed up for. That’s why you’re the one with the Mercedes.

To tell the truth, it’s no wonder that so many CEOs and executives experience burnout.

In order to be effective as a CEO, you’ve got to take care of yourself. You have to keep a balance between your work and your personal well-being. If you don’t, the company will suffer in the long run. Your own productivity will begin to drop as you begin to burn out. What’s worse is that this attitude will spread to your entire company, leaving you with underproductive employess across the board.

The solution is to force yourself to dedicate time to personal well-being. Make time for yourself. Engage in a hobby. Spend some time with family. Do some exercise to relieve stress. Spend some time learning, reflecting, and just thinking.

In the long run, you’re more likely to fail by overworking than you are by taking the time you need to live a balanced life.

Mercedes Meets iPhone

Mercedes owners know that quality matters. They won’t settle for just any car, and they won’t settle for just any phone, either.

Take, for example, the iPhone. Apple’s iPhone device is, like the Mercedes, at the top of its class. It integrates PDA functionality, MP3 player capabilities, and cell phone service, all in one stylish little package.

It’s no surprise, then, that Mercedes has released a cradle connection for the iPhone.

The new cradle, released this fall, is available on all Mercedes models, except A-Class, B-Class, CLC-Class and G-Class. The cradle is more than just somewhere to put your iPhone, however.

When inserted into the cradle, the iPhone automatically connects to the vehicle’s antenna system for receiving radio programming. Once connected, either the phone functions or audio functions on the iPhone can be activated via the controls on the multi-function steering wheel. Meanwhile the vehicle display is used to indicate the phone status or music functions and information such as the track title and artist. Also, the cradle automatically recharges the iPhone battery when the phone is sitting in the cradle.

This is the kind of feature-rich integration you’ve come to expect from Mercedes.

The 2008 Mercedes Benz ML550

The Merceds-Benz M-class has, unfortunately, been sometimes seen as the luxury SUV choice of soccer moms. This is largely because the ML was originally launched before the SUV came to be seen as more than just a mom’s transportation vehicle, and the image has stuck with the M-Class. However, the 2008 ML550 goes a long way toward changing that image.

The 2008 Mercedes ML550 has a 5.5 liter V8, and is the fastest non-AMG M-class Mercedes vehicle ever. It has excellent performance and a tremendous amount of power. The old ML500 had 302 horsepower, while the new 550 is capable of producing 382 horsepower. The 2008 Mercedes ML550 can hit 60 miles per hour in just 5.4 seconds, which is more than a second less than the ML500, and truly impressive for a luxury SUV.

On top of the additional power, the new M-class features upgraded front brakes, as well. There are plenty of other features, too. The interior is amazing, as befits a Mercedes. The seating positions are form and comfortable. The ML550 also provides a relatively quiet ride, with complant camping and wind-noise abatement.

Mercedes Benz Plans No Increases for 2009

With a lot of companies changing their prices for the upcoming 2009 year, Mercedes Benz is keeping things simply and keeping things the same.

In fact, in Canada, Mercedes Benz is planning to include additional equipment on its models at a whopping NO CHARGE to its customers. Pricing on the 2009 models, for the most part, will remain the same as pricing on the same models of the previous year. Prices will be virtually unchanged on the E-, CLK-, S-, CL-, R-, M-, GL- and G-Class models.

The E- class will especially have an upgrade worth noting. For 2009, the E-Class will be offered solely in a special Avantgarde Edition that features standard no charge sport and premium packages and adds additional content with values ranging from $5,250 to over $10,500. Not bad, eh?

In a world in which car companies are often going the extra mile to make up for rising material costs and gas prices, Mercedes vehicles are keeping things relatively the same for the upcoming model year. Always a company more than willing to support its drivers, Mercedes Benz will likely win some new fans in the upcoming year and should be able to hold their market share without any price increases. That’s good news all around.

Mercedes-Benz Keeps Rolling

With Daimler AG saying that Mercedes-Benz has sold 23,292 units for the month of July 2008 in the United States, it’s probably a good time to go looking for quality certified used cars from the company. The Mercedes-Benz arm in the United States also includes smart cars, so going green never looked better.

From where I sit, companies like Mercedes-Benz are able to keep things steady because they respond to what the public wants. While other companies, luxury or otherwise, keep on pushing the same products on the marketplace in hopes of brand name association trumping all standards, other companies like Mercedes-Benz offer their consumers a good mix of cars and vehicles.

With the smart car and with other great options from Mercedes-Benz, it’s a great time to buy certified used cars or brand new ones from your local dealership.

The sales for July 2008 marks a 12% increase over the sales of last July, which means, obviously, that Mercedes is moving in the right direction. If the car company can continue to offer quality cars to its consumers and can continue to keep the environment as a top priority, the sales will likely continue to rise.

So regardless of what type of car or truck you’re looking for, you can rest assured that Mercedes vehicles can fit the bill. I know I’m down.

The Best Mercedes

What is the best of all the Mercedes? Heck if I know. That’s like asking me whether I like the Pittsburgh Pirates or the Philadelphia Eagles more. They’re each in their own league.

Mercedes has its budget vehicle, for example, in the C class sedan. They have their ultimate luxury vehicle in the SLR Mc Larren. They have everything in between.

For me, the best Mercedes I’ve ever owned was the 1993 350 SDL sedan. Mine had a Turbo Diesel engine with six cylinders. What’s amazing about that vehicle was that it got around 30 miles to the gallon on the freeway.

In terms of more recent models, the CLS 550 four-door coupe is a good choice, as is the SL 500 Roadster. If speed is your thing, the G-55 with the 493 hp V-8 engine is the way to go.

Really, the best Mercedes vehicle depends on you and what you’re using it for. If you need something to take out on the town at night, you need a different vehicle than if you will be driving it during your daily commute. On top of all that, personal style and preference play a role, as well.

The Macho Mercedes

Mercedes VehiclesI have to be honest with you.

The 2009 Mercedes SLK is, without a doubt, the most macho Mercedes yet. The SLK has always been full of machismo, to be sure. It’s the Mercedes 2-seater than men want to be seen driving, and that they want to drive.

The new version is even more macho than its predecessors. The new looks makes you think immediately of the McLaren Mercedes Formula One race car, mainly to the new center-bulge hood. This takes macho to a whole new level. The aggressive looking front fascia features split lower grille openings. The rear fascia looks like a diffuser.

The look isn’t the only thing that’s sportier on the new model, however. There’s plenty of features, from the three-spoke steering wheel to the direct-steer system that add to the macho mix. The leather seats and Bluetooth connectivity scream quality and modernity, too.

If you like Mercedes vehicles and you want to get the sportiest one out there, get the 2009 SLK. And, while it screams “macho,” there’s no reason women sports-car enthusiasts won’t love this one, as well.
