Diagnosing a Cooling System Problem in Your Mercedes

benz dealersThe cooling system is one of the most important parts of your Mercedes vehicle. Without it, your engine would overheat in a matter of minutes. This can cause a great deal of damage and even blow your entire engine if you are not careful. But how do you diagnose a cooling system problem before it becomes a major repair? Here are some tips you should know so your Mercedes does not overheat.

• Know the common problems that occur with cooling systems. If your Mercedes is overheating or “running hot,” it probably has something to do with your coolant level, the thermostat, the radiator, water pump or the hoses.
• If you notice your engine’s temperature gauge going about the halfway point, pull over immediately and turn the engine off. Let it cool for a few minutes before lifting the hood as built-up steam could cause burns or injury.
• Look for leaks in the hoses, around the areas where the hoses connect to the various cooling components or on the bottom side of the hood as a hose leak could cause coolant to spray all over the place.
• Check the coolant level once the radiator has cooled down. Never take off the radiator cap while it is still hot as hot coolant could spew everywhere and cause severe burns.
• If the coolant level is fine and the hoses seem fine, have your car towed to the nearest service station to check the radiator, thermostat and water pump. Do not attempt to drive it any further as you could damage the engine.

Use these tips to diagnose a cooling system problem in your Mercedes. If you’re unsure, swing into your Princeton, NJ area Mercedes-Benz dealer for a complete diagnosis. The more you know how to do, the more money you can save on repairs.

The Air Coditioner in Your Mercedes

There are some features of your Mercedes vehicle that are pure luxury and style, and there are some that are pure necessity. The air conditioner in your Mercedes-Benz is pure necessity, especially if you live in a climate that gets hot during these dog days of August. While your Mercedes air conditioner won’t likely experience problems, there are some ways to recognize if there is a problem.

The first and the most obvious sign that there’s a problem with the air conditioner in your Mercedes is that the system isn’t cooling properly. If it’s not putting out cold air, you know something is wrong. It should put out air that’s around 50 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature.

It could be that your air conditioner is low on refrigerant. You may be able to check the refrigerant on your own using an A/C gauge. If you’re low on refrigerant, you need to get your vehicle serviced.

If your air conditioner needs service, come and see us. We are your Mercedes-benz dealer, and we know how to fix your air conditioner.

Inspecting Your Mercedes Tires

It can be easy when you drive your Mercedes vehicle day after day to miss the little things. Making time every few weeks to visually inspect your Mercedes tires can help to protect your investment, retain your car’s value, and even prevent breakdowns and accidents.

One of the things you need to regularly inspect on your Mercedes is your tires. You want to make sure there’s plenty of tread on your tire, so that you don’t lose traction on the road and so that you don’t risk getting a flat or having a blowout. There should be enough tread such that, if you place a Lincoln penny in the tread face down, you won’t be able to see any of the head.

You should also look at the tire pressure in your tires on a regular basis. Once a month is about right. You want to make sure that your tires are inflated to the proper level. Among other things, this will help you to have more control over the vehicle, get better gas mileage, and even help keep your alignment from going out on you.

If you have problems with your tires, make sure to call your Princeton area Mercedes-Benz dealer today and let us take care of it.

Free Mercedes With Home Purchase

As you can see from what you read in the newspapers every day, housing sales are at an all time low. If you can afford to buy a house and get approved for the mortgage, it truly is a buyer’s market right now. One woman in North Texas is offering to sweeten the pot on her home’s sale: she’s throwing in a new Mercedes.

Nancy Henger, of Lewisville, Texas, has been trying to sell her home for a year. The home, which lists for nearly $2 million, was Henger’s dream home. Unfortunately, the home she currently lives in wouldn’t sell either, and she is unable to continue making both mortgage payments.

During a recession, it can be a challenge to find a buyer for a multi-million dollar home. However, the offer of the Mercedes, which will cost Henger somewhere in the neighborhood of $60,000 is just one extra incentive.

If anything can put this house ahead of the competition, it may well be a brand new stylish, reliable, classy Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

When To Replace The Brakes On Your Mercedes

Unless you’re driving a realtively new Mercedes, your brakes are eventually going to wear down. If you’re ready for it and know what to watch for, you’ll save all sorts of time, trouble and money. If you ignore a brake problem, however, you can wind up in an accident or facing expensive repairs.

Wear on your brakes is caused by a number of factors, including your own driving practices, how old the car is, and what the car weighs. Your front brakes are going to typically wear out before your back brakes, as those front brakes tend to do the bulk of the work.

If your brakes make a high-pitched squeal, it’s likely that you need new ones. It means that the metal on the pads has worn down and become thin. In some cases, your brake pads may have a soft metal tab that’s contained in the brake pad material. once the pads wear down and this metal tab connects with the metal on your brakes, it closes the circuit and sends a signal to your warning light that your brakes need to be replaced.

Topping Off Fluids In Your Mercedes

Fluid levels in your Mercedes are key to making sure everything runs just right at all times. While you can always let your mechanic fill your fluids, there are some fluids that are pretty easy to top off on your own. Here are a few of the important fluids that keep your Mercedes going down the road:

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid helps protect your brakes from corrosion and keep them lubricated. Your vehicle’s manual should tell you what type of brake fluid your vehicle uses, and how to check it. Every 30,000 miles or so, you should “bleed” your brakes – that is, you should drain your brake fluid and replace it.

Power Steering Fluid

This fluid helps with the maneuverability of your vehicle. Generally speaking you can check your power steering fluid by locating a cap labeled “power steering” under the hood. Again, you’ll want to check your owner’s manual to make sure you’ve got the right type of power steering fluid to top off your vehicle.

Wiper Fluid

Wiper fluid, sometimes called window washer fluid, is basically a mix of glass cleaner and water. The wiper fluid tank is generally large and should be relatively obvious to locate and top off. If you live in a colder climate, make sure to use wiper fluid that is rated for colder temperatures. Obviously, this is one of the easiest fluids to top off.

Oil

Oil is what keeps your engine running smooth and clean. Certainly you can change your own oil, but it is generally not too expensive to have it done for you either. Your local Buick Pontiac GMC dealership can change your oil and help you decide which oil is best, as well.

Coolant

Engine coolant keeps your vehicle from getting too hot. If you don’t have enough coolant, you can permanently damage your engine. You can top off your engine coolant via your radiator or, in most new models, via an overflow reservoir tank. Just make sure you have the right mix of coolant for your vehicle.

Battery Fluid

If you have a battery that’s not sealed, you may need to refill your battery fluid. To do this, uncover the refill hole of your battery, and check to see how the fluid looks. If the battery fluid is below the refill line, add distilled water.

If you’re not comfortable checking topping off fluids on your own, the folks at your Mercedes dealer near Lawrenceville are here and ready to help you out.

Pothole Problems

Potholes are one of the most frustrating things you can encounter in your Mercedes vehicle. Potholes can be more than just annoying; they can be dangerous, and they can cause damage to your vehicle. Driving over even the smallest of potholes at full speed can cause damage to your alignment, rims, tires, and your suspension. It may cause you to lose control of the vehicle, and even swerving to avoid a pothole can cause a problem.

What is it that causes potholes? To understand, it is important to understand a little bit about the road surface. The surface of the road is a multi-layer structure. There is the soil or sub-grade. Crushed rock or gravel is often the sub-base layer. On top of all of that is the asphalt, a petroleum-like material.

During the winter months, the pavement is constantly freezing and thawing. In addition, traffic is constantly wearing on the pavement. Eventually, cracks form. When the road thaws, water gets into those cracks. When the pavement freezes, the water expands, causing the pavement to actually rise. This causes a divot to be formed underneath the pavement surface. When this happens, the pavement breaks and a pothole forms.

The best way to avoid potholes is just to be aware of your road surroundings. You should also make sure to follow behind other cars at a safe distance. If they swerve or break to avoid a pothole, you want to be ready for it.

Check your Mercedes Radiator Cap

It’s easy to keep on top of things like oil changes and burt out headlights on your Mercedes. However, there are some basic maintenance items you need to think about. In addition to checking your tires, listening for noises, watching for pools underneath your vehicle and generally being aware of what’s going on, there are some things under the hood you should check.

You should check your radiator cap every now and again. A bad cap usually won’t lead to a severe problem, but it will cause a loss of coolant and drips on your garage floor.

To check your Mercedes radiator cap, you need to start when the engine is cold. Remove the cap, and look carefully at the seal. Is the seal deformed? Are there cracks in the seal? If so, it’s simply a matter of purchasing a replacement cap and putting it on.

Mercedes Unveils M-Class Hybrid Vehicle

This month, Mercedes unveiled one of the most innovative vehicles to hit the market. Mercedes-Benz took advantage of the New York International Auto Show to unveil its new ML450 hybrid SUV.

The ML450 will go into production this fall, and is built in Vance, Alabama. It is powered by a V6 engine combined with a nickel metal hydride battery. The Mercedes ML450 can operate either on just electric or just gas power, or on both at the same time. This vehicle provides the driver with better fuel economy, and a way to help the environment with lower emissions than the standard Mercedes-Benz M Class.

The good news is that the Mercedes-Benz ML450 doesn’t sacrifice performance. It still performs on a level at par with other M class vehicles.

It is expected that this vehicle will cost more than the standard M-class vehicle. Industry analysts expect the vehicle to do well in terms of sales, and that it will appeal to people who want to make a difference with the vehicle they drive.
