When To Replace The Brakes On Your Mercedes

June 01, 2009 | | Comments 0

Unless you’re driving a realtively new Mercedes, your brakes are eventually going to wear down. If you’re ready for it and know what to watch for, you’ll save all sorts of time, trouble and money. If you ignore a brake problem, however, you can wind up in an accident or facing expensive repairs.

Wear on your brakes is caused by a number of factors, including your own driving practices, how old the car is, and what the car weighs. Your front brakes are going to typically wear out before your back brakes, as those front brakes tend to do the bulk of the work.

If your brakes make a high-pitched squeal, it’s likely that you need new ones. It means that the metal on the pads has worn down and become thin. In some cases, your brake pads may have a soft metal tab that’s contained in the brake pad material. once the pads wear down and this metal tab connects with the metal on your brakes, it closes the circuit and sends a signal to your warning light that your brakes need to be replaced.
