All about Your Mercedes-Benz Thermostat

The thermostat in your Mercedes-Benz is one of the most important parts to the engine. Without it, your car could overheat and this can lead to thousands of dollars of repair bills. But do you know how the thermostat actually works? Here is a brief description of how it helps the engine maintain a constant level.

The thermostat typically sits between the radiator and the engine. It remains closed while the engine is warming up so the engine coolant stays where it is until it is needed. Once the engine reaches a certain temperature, the thermostat opens up and allows the coolant to flow into the radiator to keep it from getting too hot.

Your Mercedes thermostat can be affected by a number of problems. A failing water pump or leaking coolant can affect or damage the thermostat so it does not do its job properly. That’s why it’s so important to get your thermostat checked regularly. Some auto experts suggest getting the thermostat changed every couple years just to ensure that it is always in proper working order. The actual thermostat and its replacement is rather easy and inexpensive, but neglecting it could cause a great deal of damage.

Do you want to get your thermostat and cooling system checked on your Benz? Visit your Philadelphia area Mercedes-Benz dealer for a complete service checkup for peace of mind.

Would You Give Up Your Mercedes for TV?

benz partsIf you were offered a reality TV show in which you had to give up the luxuries of your life in exchange for living the life of a low-income family on a tight budget? That’s what Melanie Brown of Spice Girls fame is going to do.

Brown is giving up her Mercedes-Benz lifestyle and their other luxuries to star in a reality TV show entitled “Seven Days on the Breadline.” The show is going to take place in her native Britain and is not going to include her family. Instead, she is moving in with a low-income family that survives on a very tight budget. It’s going to be quite the change for Brown who currently lives in an upscale community in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters.

Brown achieved huge success with The Spice Girls, a popular all-girl singing group from the U.K. that had chart-topping hits during the mid-1990s. Their biggest hit – “Wannabe” – still gets stuck in the head of many people who listened to the radio during that time. Each member of the group also had a unique name given to them, such as Scary Spice, Baby Spice and others. Brown’s personal moniker in the group was Mel B.

While Mel B may be willing to give up her luxury lifestyle for a couple months during a reality show, there’s not reason you should follow suit unless you are given a reality show contract. Until that happens, visit your Princeton, NJ area Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a test drive with one of our luxury vehicles with all the features. Start living the good life today!

Mercedes Safety Features Save Drivers from Themselves

Mercedes-Benz vehicles are becoming more and more technologically advanced in ways that should create safer roads and drivers. Several safety features are included on new Mercedes-Benz models and you won’t find these features on any other brands for quite some time. Here are a few of the more exciting safety features exclusive to Mercedes-Benz.

• Blind Spot Assist – How many times have you almost switched lanes and hit another car because they were in your blind spot? With Blind Spot Assist, you hear and see an alert when another car is in your blind spot so you know to stay in your lane.

• Distronic Plus – This innovative system uses two radar devices to monitor the traffic ahead. The system can “employ up to 40 percent of your vehicle’s braking power to slow your vehicle all the way to a stop,” according to the description on the Mercedes-Benz website.
• Pre-Safe – If your body movements and the movements of the vehicle indicate that a collision is imminent, the Pre-Safe system kicks in to tighten seatbelts to help ensure the safety of all the passengers. If the system detects a possible rollover, it automatically closes the sunroof and rolls up the windows before it happens.

These are just a few of the things to expect with the new Mercedes models. Call your Flemington, NJ area MB dealers today to schedule a test drive in one of the best vehicle brands on Earth!

Keeping an Auto Maintenance Log for Your Mercedes

Do you keep an auto maintenance log for the repairs and maintenance procedures you have done on your Mercedes-Benz? If you’re like many drivers, you probably do not. However, an auto maintenance log can help you save time and money in the long run.

What is an auto maintenance log?
An auto maintenance log is like an “auto diary” in which you write down anything that concerns your Mercedes. You can keep a record of your gas mileage so you know if you are losing efficiency or simply write down the dates of your maintenance procedures so you know when you should have them done again. The more detailed your Mercedes auto log, though, the more “in tune” you will be with your luxury vehicle.

Why should I keep an auto log for my Mercedes?
Auto logs show all the repairs and procedures you have had done on your Mercedes. If you ever want to sell your Mercedes, potential buyers will want to see that you have properly maintained it over the years. In addition, your auto log shows your mechanic previous work that you have had done so they know what to look for and what to rule out when they begin inspecting your Mercedes. This can save them time and, as a result, save you money.

What should I include in my Mercedes auto maintenance log?
Just to be safe, your auto maintenance log should be as detailed as possible. Include your mileage, when you fill up the gas tank, when you add fluids, when you have routine maintenance performed and anything else.

If it’s time to get something done to your Mercedes according to your auto log, schedule a service appointment today at your Flemington, NJ area Mercedes dealer. Just remember to bring your auto log so you can record what we do!

Autumn Maintenance for Your Mercedes-Benz

mercedes serviceYou should always think about maintaining your Mercedes-Benz, but autumn is the perfect time for reinforcing those good maintenance habits. “Autumn is a great time for automotive maintenance and repair,” explains Jim MacPherson, a car care expert with an auto-related radio show in Connecticut. “It gives us time to repair the wear and tear and allows us to prepare for those colder days ahead.” Here are the basic things you should check before the frigid winter weather makes auto maintenance a nightmare.

• Tire Pressure and Wear – You want to make sure the tires on your Mercedes-Benz have the proper amount of pressure right now because air pressure tends to drop with colder temperatures. Test the pressure before the cold weather hits and then once a month thereafter. Also, make sure there is plenty of tread on your Mercedes’ tires so you can get proper traction in the slippery weather.
• Cooling System – Any leaks in your cooling system could cause damage to your radiator or other parts of your Mercedes-Benz. While your car probably won’t need the “cooling” aspect of the system, the engine coolant also acts as antifreeze to help your Mercedes withstand the very cold weather.
• Tune Up – If you have any problems with your car, the frigid temperatures will only make those problems worse. Get a proper tune-up and checkup to ensure your Mercedes-Benz is prepared and ready for the winter driving months.

If you have any questions or if you want a full checkup, visit you’re the service area of your New Jersey area Mercedes dealer. We’ll be happy to take a look and prepare your luxury vehicle for the upcoming weather.
