Introducing the Updated 2009 Mercedes SL
The Mercedes-Benz SL has long been known as a leader in its class. Combining elegance, luxury and power, the SL is beloved by both sports car lovers and luxury aficionados. The latest revamp focuses primarily on the vehicle’s sportiness, without sacrificing the luxuriousness for which the SL is known.
The 2009 SL is available with a variety of engine choices. The basic V6 ranges from 231 hp to 316 hp. However, those who want even more power can select a V8 or even a jaw dropping 517 horsepower twin-turbo V12 instead.
The SL body has been slightly redesigned, particularly in the front end. A more prominent front bumper and grille are offset by CLS-style headlamps. Those headlamps are also technologically enhanced, featuring bi-xenon bulbs on every vehicle. An available option is the five-function Intelligent Light System. The system automatically detects changing conditions to switch between five modes: Motorway, Country, Cornering, Active and Enhanced Fog.
Another major technological enhancement is an improved COMAND control system. Bluetooth has been fully integrated, along with a new Universal Consumer Interface that handles full iPod integration.
Airscarf, which first debuted in the SLK class, provides a steady stream of warm air at head level, allowing driver and passenger comfort when driving with the top down in cold weather.
Inside the car, several improvements have been made as well. The instrument cluster has been completely redesigned. A new three-spoke steering wheel and improved seating complete the interior redesign. Customers can choose between two different leathers, five aluminum or wood trim choices and five different color combinations, increasing customization choices.
The SL is expected to become available in Europe in April. In the meantime, why not stop by our local dealership to check out the Mercedes-Benz vehicles already on the market? You will find many of the SL’s technologies in the vehicles of today.
