Certified used cars are ideal for people who know nothing about car maintenance. Although they are not brand new, certified used cars are better than regular used cars because they come with extensive warranties and they are in better condition than normal used cars. However, things can still go wrong whether you own a cheap car or one of the high-quality Mercedes vehicles on the market. After all, they are cars. Here are three main problems that you should not ignore with your certified used cars because they could lead to massive damage and repairs.
Low Engine Oil
Oil is the lifeblood of any engine. When it gets low or dirty, your engine can’t run as efficiently as it should. If your oil level gets too low, it could cause damage to your engine and possibly even make it seize. That means you’ll need either a new engine or a new car. Check your oil periodically to keep this from happening and to keep your engine running as well as it should.
Timing Belt
Although it’s just a belt, this keeps your engine running by opening and closing the valves in the head gasket at the right time. This should be changed about every 70,000 miles generally, but check your owner’s manual to determine for sure when to change it. If the belt snaps when you’re driving down the road, you could blow the engine before you even have time to pull over.
Proper Fuel
Diesel fuel can utterly ruin a petrol-fueled vehicle. Unfortunately, if you’re not careful, you might pick up the wrong pump at the fuel station and fill your tank with diesel. If this happens, do not start your vehicle because that will pump the diesel fuel through your engine. Instead, get it towed to a mechanic right away and have your system cleaned out. This will be costly, but not as costly as it would be if you started your car.
