Handling
Yesterday we detailed the C63 AMG’s impressive 6.3 liter V8 AMG engine. Controlling that engine is a powerful seven speed transmission with shift paddles and a regular shift lever. The transmission can be operated in three different modes according to driver preference: Comfort, Sport and Manual.
Both the front and rear suspensions have been completely reengineered for optimum performance. Precise steering, superior cornering and better road feel are just a few of the AMG’s advantages over the already finely-tuned C-Class vehicles.
Well ventilated large disc brakes provide superior stopping ability, even after several hard stops.
Safety
The C63 AMG retains the impeccable safety equipment of the traditional C-Class. Six airbags, antilock brakes and traction control are just a few of the standard features. In addition, the stability control is now customizable. Electronic Stability Protection can be switched on, for the most conservative vehicle control. Daredevils can switch the feature off, while those firmly in the middle can opt for ESP Sport. This provides a certain level of protection while allowing drivers to feel the road more than is possible with the system fully engaged.
Technology
As first glance, entering the cockpit of the C63 AMG is reminiscent of entering the cockpit of a jumbo jet, with a seemingly endless array of buttons and controls. Nonetheless, the controls are logical and take only a short time to become accustomed to.
The Bottom Line
The Business Week reviewer concluded that the C63 AMG is quite possibly the best overall vehicle in its class.
