Brighten Up Your Executive Wardrobe

January 24, 2009 | | Comments 0

The executive wardrobe for men has, for many years, consisted largely of blues, grays, and browns. On occasion, you might find an executive that pushes the envelope a bit and wears a pink or yellow shirt, but for the most part these subdued tones have been as much a fixture of executive culture as the Mercedes-Benz. Even many women at the executive level shy away from bright colors.

Today, however, some of that is changing. Bright colors can really help to light up a room, and can have a profound psychological effect on the office. Here are some things to keep in mind if you want to brighten up your wardrobe:

  • Avoid head to toe color. Balance any color you use with a more neutral color such as gray.
  • Bold colors tend to look best on men with light skin and dark hair, or men with dark brown skin. Men that have more pale skin and hair should stick to softer colors.
  • Coordinate with your eye and hair color. A blue shirt will bring out blue eyes, for example.
  • Keep bright colors on the upper body, near the region of the face.

While fashion may change, you can always be sure you’re in the right car if you’re driving a Mercedes.
