Hit the Beach in Your Certified Mercedes

February 18, 2008 | | Comments 2

Daytona BeachDuring the long, cold winter, it can be difficult to remember that beach weather will eventually arrive. Before you know it, however, the beaches will again be overrun with tourists and weekenders intent on catching some rays. If you will be heading to a locale with moderate weather, why not get a jump-start on summer with some beach driving? Well-known drivable beaches are located in Florida, North Carolina and other popular locations.

If you have never driven on the beach, there are a few things that you should know. It is not necessary to have a 4×4 or offroad vehicle. Your Certified Mercedes will do just fine. However, it is important to follow these basic tips.

Lower Your Tire Pressure – Although many beach drivers have no problems with their tires, lowering the tire pressure a bit will help you to get better traction on the sand.

Get a Permit – Some locales require a permit for beach driving. These can generally be obtained close to the beach, even at gas stations in some areas. There may be a nominal fee in some places.

Pack Your Emergency Equipment – Although it is highly unlikely that you will get stuck, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Tow chains, jumper cables, a small shovel and perhaps a pair of wooden boards can help you to get out of a dangerous or annoying situation.

Know the Law – Some beaches do not allow driving at night, during sea turtle nesting season or during high traffic seasons. Speed limits on the beach are typically very low. Some beaches do not allow cars to be left unattended. Make sure you know and follow all relevant laws, as beach police are often quick to write tickets.

Beach driving is a lot of fun and unlike sunbathing can be done even in cold weather. So the next time you find yourself in a beach town, why not take your Certified Mercedes for a drive?
