Mercedes-Benz 2009 SL-Class

The Mercedes-Benz 2009 SL-Class is a wonderful new car, and completely worthy of the Mercedes name. The Baseline, entry-level SL 350 with its V6 is more than adequate for most drivers, but that’s only the beginning.

Forget, for a moment, that these cars just look good. Forget the Mercedes reputation for quality and performance. The SL-Class stands on its own merits, whether or not the name “Mercedes” is attached to it.

One thing that jumps out at you right away when driving the Mercedes-Benz 2009 SL-Class is the suspension. The suspension is excellent, and perfect for touring. The steering is direct, and the vehicle handles very well. This vehicle is lively when taking corners, but not too lively. The steering and the suspension seem to work in concert, providing a consistent driving experience.

The engine in this one is a powerhouse, and smooth as can be. It’s steering is light, and the computer-aided steering seem to function just like they should.

All told, if you’re in the market for a new Mercedes, the Mercedes-Benz 2009 SL-Class family almost definitely has a vehicle that will suit your needs.

2009 Mercedes SL63 AMG

SL63 AMGThe 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG has a different look than the SL55 AMG that it replaces. The car has gone through exterior styling changes to make the vehicle look more contemporary. It adds front and side skirts, and features standard 19-inch wheels. There have also been revisions to the interior. There is an iPod interface, Bluetooth hookup, and AMG shift lever, gauge cluster and steering wheel.

The real change in this model, however, is under the hood. Mercedes has replaced the torque converter with a multiplate wet clutch and merged it with its seven-speed planetary gearset. What this does is give the 2009 SL63 AMG the feel of an automated manual gearbox.

Mercedes SL63 AMGThese changes help make the 2009 SL63 AMG fit both into the luxury category and the sports car category. The amazing V-8 engine under the hood helps the 2009 SL63 AMG hit 60 miles per hour in just over 4 seconds, and hit a top speed of around 155 miles an hour. It also features reliable steering controls and excellent stability control. If you want superior performance, you can opt for the Performance package which has bigger front brake rotors, a torque-sensing limited-slip differential, and aggressive tuning of the active body control suspension system.

If you’re looking for the perfect mix of comfort, style and performance, consider the 2009 Mercedes SL63 AMG.

Mercedes C-Class Review

For 2009, Mercedes C class of vehicles contains the C300 Sport Sedan, the C300 Luxury Sedan, and the C350 Sports Sedan. Well known for its commitment to luxury, detail, and comfort, Mercedes does not disappoint with these three models.

The Mercedes C300 Sports and Luxury Sedans both start with a powerful 3.0 L V6 engine, capable of 228 hp and 221 lb-feet of torque, with a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. They are both capable of 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds, and have a starting price tag of $32,475 and $34,175 respectively.

The Mercedes C350 Sports Sedan comes standard with an upgraded 3.5 L V-6 engine which will deliver more power. Rated for 268 hp and 258 lb-feet of torque, this engine will get a slightly lower fuel efficiency of 17 mpg in the city, while still getting 25 mpg on the highway. It will also get you from 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, and has a starting price tag of $37,775.

Perhaps appropriate for any vehicle with the name “Sport” in its title, the Mercedes C300 Sport Sedan comes with a 6-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter with a precise direct action rod-type linkage for quicker, more decisive gear changes. Also optional on this model, and standard on the Mercedes C300 Luxury Sedan and C350 Sports Sedan is a 7-speed automatic with rear wheel drive.
According to Mercedes, the automatic transmission includes many features to give the driver some feel over the car:

“Driver-adaptive programming adjusts shift points to the driver’s current driving style. Touch Shift allows [the] driver to manually downshift and allows upshifts by nudging the shift lever left or right from the Drive position. Shift into Optimum Gear programming allows one-touch selection of the best gear for maximum acceleration or engine braking by holding the shift lever to the left of Drive for one second.”
“Driver-selectable Comfort mode starts vehicle moving in 2nd gear or 2nd Reverse gear, and upshifts at lower rpm, to help improve control on slippery surfaces. The instrument cluster displays a readout of selected gear range and Standard/Comfort mode.”

Of course, all three models come with all of the features one would expect when purchasing a luxury car from Mercedes. The classic lines of all three models make them instantly recognizable as a Mercedes product, allowing one to join the ranks discerning car buyers.
